Interview Emily Collins: “Aim high, dream big”

New Zealand’s rising star Emily Collins (Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling) has ended her 2013 campaign on a high with the National Criterium title in her home city of Auckland and some strong results in the Australian summer races. “ Winning the NZ criterium champsionships was definitely special for me. I haven’t won an elite national title yet, only in my junior days so to win my first one and wearing the Wiggle Honda jersey it was a good feeling. “ “I was second there last year so was pretty fired up to take the win and racing on my home...

A Special Spring!

Finally onto a quick update – it’s been a hectic few months! Just realised I haven’t written since Omloop Het Hageland where I took my first big Euro win – seems a fair while ago now. A lot has gone down throughout these months and I’m pleased to say that the Spring season has finally come to an end for 2013. It sure has been brutal in terms of weather and back to back race days. For me, being my first pro Euro season it’s all still new and racing so constantly week in week out has been tough to manage. It’s the lack of routine...

Having claimed the Points competition in the GP Samyn merely a few days earlier, Collins was admitted shocked about her victory however creditedthe tremendous work from her team mates to the team’s first UCI win of the season. “I really...

Emily Collins: New Zealand’s hope for the future

Twenty-two year old Emily Collins joins the Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team after a stellar season with the American registered Vanderkitten-Focus team in 2012. After previously dabbling in tennis and triathlon, Collins took up cycling in 2005 when she was scouted during a National Talent Identification program at school. Emily’s first big win came in 2008 at the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Championships, and the Kiwi rider hasn’t looked back since. In 2010 Collins based herself in Europe where she immediately caught the eyes of...

Kiwi Summer

by Emily Collins Sure has been a busy few months down under! After that much needed break back in October I’ve been back on the bike since enjoying the bits and patches of NZ summer; chilling with family and catching up with mates + a fair bit of travel to and fro to different events here in NZ and across the ditch in Auccie *(Aussie) I’ve been happy to come away with a few podiums and a bit of prize mulla while out there which has been cool and it’s nice to have a change of competition and scene in racing – safe to say I’m...

New Things… | emilycollins-nz.blogspot.nl

New things… So! It’s been a pretty overwhelming few months with a lot going on, big decisions to make and opportunities to take. I haven’t updated since the World Champs as it’s pretty much been full gas since! Looking back to then am sure most of you saw or heard but there was a very epic pile up/crash in the women’s race and unfortunately I had the joy of being part of it. Here’s a  pretty great video that sums up the crash and  ‘my worlds experience’!...
